Tips on buying at a timeshare resort

  1. Location - Buy at a resort location where you have your primary interest. Examples would be at the beach, in the mountains, Las Vegas, Orlando or maybe even in another country. Even though you can rent your property if you are unable to use your vacation week, your want to own where you have a great interest in spending your time.
  2. Type of resort - Select a resort that fits your style. Resorts come in many different sizes and types. Some people like the larger resorts that offer a wide variety of options and amenities, while others prefer a smaller more unique and personal resort. There are also a number of large brand name resorts to consider that have created their own style of vacation experience. Examples would be Hyatt, Marriott, Fairfield, Hilton and many others. If you are planning to buy into one of these timeshare companies, spend a little time to understand their brand and choose the one that you would be most comfortable.
  3. Size of your accommodations - Resorts have strict rules on the number of people that can sleep in the condos. Occupancy can vary from 2 to 12 persons or more depending on the unit type that you own. Make sure you are realistic about the size and capacity that you need for your vacation property.
