We recently got back from our exchange to this resort and the drive from San Juan AP to the resort is definitely a bit of a challenge. Was disappointed by the beach area, not much sand, and ocean waves are rough.Disappointed that maps to nearby shopping areas were not provided. We found a shopping center two exits before Palmas del Mar, and it was in Walmart that I happen to ask a salesperson where the nearest large supermarket was, and he directed us to Ralph's.The 2-bdrm unit was clean, but missing utensils, kettle to boil water, one of the phones did not work, TV in the bdrm was on its last leg.The pool was not cleaned until noontime each day.We arrived a day late and still not enough towels for family of 4. I give the resort 3 stars.

I recently exchange through I.I. for a week at Club Cala in Puerto Rico. Getting to P.R. was a breeze, but getting from the airport to Club Cala had its challeges. The resort itself was O.K. I was happy I did not have my children with me because we had to drive most places. The staff was nice but there really wasn't anything to do at Club Cala. I slept there but spent most of my week at the Sheraton Hotel in Palmas. The area was very nice but not your typical tourist attraction. It was mostly privately owned, but quite beautiful right inside Palmas, which was a gated community. The restaurants were a bit pricey but very good. It's a great place to relax.

Keep in mind you are going to this location for the beach and island views. The resort is in the process of major renovation but should be extremely updated and eye appealing within 1-2 years.NOT advisable to stay in a room around the pool area as these are in need of being remodeled. If you ask they will try to accomodate you by placing in another room. The harborside units are somewhat better. The golfcart rental is a plus.Great way to see the whole resort area and housing.Take advantage of the water aerobics. Not a whole lot of activity around the area and beaches are NOT crowded. My husband and I enjoyed the quietness but teenagers may think it too slowed paced!Take advantage of the onsite restaurants&casino.Staff is friendly!Lots of sunshine

My husband and I have been coming here for at least 10 years and have never had a bad experience. The staff are among the most helpful and courteous people we have ever met while traveling. Although there are plenty of pools, the beach is absolutely amazing! There are a variety of excellent restaurants at reasonable prices (for a resort). Activities include tennis, golf, fitness center, bike rental, horseback riding, and just walking to explore the extensive, beautifully maintained grounds.
