This is a great place for getting away, but not too away. Condos handle 6 comfortably, especially if you feed the kids at the bar, beautiful views from balconies. The three story units have a balcony for the living room and master bedroom. The two story units have a balcony for the living room only. The country club pool is large, with a wading pool for the little ones and lifeguards all the time.
Driving across the island to the beach takes about 3 minutes, all the beach on Galveston is public, though you have to be careful not to park on private property to get there (most places you can't take your car on the beach). So no parking in people's driveways.
Groceries close, Walmart 15 min away in Galveston.
